Boosting Plastic Webinar series: Assure Quality Recycling standards with the PRE-1000 tool

On October 22, the PRIMUS Project  successfully hosted a new charapter of its Boosting  Plastic Recycling webinar series. The event focused on improving the quality of plastic recycling and highlighted the innovative PRE-1000 tool, a standard developed to enhance recycling processes across Europe. Participants from various sectors, including sustainability advocates, waste management professionals, and policymakers, gathered to discuss the role of quality standards in transforming the recycling industry. The webinar addressed the growing need for high-quality recycling processes to combat the increasing problem of plastic waste. The PRE-1000 tool was presented as a solution to this challenge by setting standards for plastic recyclates, aiming to...

ACLCA 2024 Conference

Primus Project, represented by Julia Cilleruelo (GreenDelta), participated in the American Center for Life Cycle Assessment (ACLCA) event held in Utah from September 23-26. The ACLCA was a prominent organization dedicated to promoting life cycle assessment (LCA) as a means of evaluating environmental sustainability. Its annual conference brought together experts to share insights on the latest innovations and applications of LCA, fostering collaboration and encouraging sustainable practices. This event provided a distinctive opportunity to delve into groundbreaking innovations in sustainability and the circular economy. Attendees seized the chance to connect with industry leaders, explore new solutions, and contribute to the development of a more sustainable...

Attention Recyclers and Manufacturers: Your Insights Are Crucial! 🌍♻️

In our  commitment to promoting sustainability in the automotive and home appliance sectors, we are launching a significant study focused on understanding the viewpoints of both recyclers and manufacturers regarding the adoption of secondary plastics over primary plastics. As part of the EU-funded PRIMUS project, this study aims to explore how incorporating secondary plastics can enhance sustainable practices within these vital industries. Your knowledge and experience are essential for identifying the challenges, opportunities, and best practices that can drive this transition forward. By taking just 10 minutes to complete our survey, you will contribute to shaping the future of material sourcing and utilization. Your insights...

Traceability with Digital Product Passport

Today, we released a YouTube video explaining how Circularise's Digital Product Passport (DPP) will revolutionize the recycling industry and tackle plastic pollution. Over 300 million tons of plastic are produced annually, yet recycling remains difficult due to high costs, inefficient sorting, and quality degradation. The DPP, a blockchain-based tool, tracks the entire lifecycle of plastic, ensuring regulatory compliance and sustainability. This technology will support the PRIMUS project in achieving its primary goal: transforming secondary plastics into the preferred raw material for high-value products. In this video, you'll discover how the PRIMUS project and Circularise are leveraging this innovative solution to reshape plastic recycling and drive...

American Chemical Society conference

On August 19-20, the PRIMUS Project  participated in the American Chemical Society conference, represented by Jarkko J Saarinen from the University of Eastern Finland. He presented on "Catalytic Removal of Brominated Flame Retardants (BFRs) from Plastic Waste." We sincerely thank the organizers for the invitation and the opportunity to engage in this insightful and impactful event. This conference provided an excellent platform to showcase our research and connect with experts in the field of chemical sciences. The discussions and feedback we received were invaluable in further refining our work. We are excited about the potential collaborations and advancements that may arise from this fruitful exchange...

Introducing the PRE-1000 Standard for Plastics Recyclers

[mkd_button size="" type="" text="Download Policy Brief" custom_class="" icon_pack="font_awesome" fa_icon="" link="https://www.primus-project.eu/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/20240703_PRIMUS_PRE1000-policy-brief.pdf" target="_self" color="" hover_color="" background_color="" hover_background_color="" border_color="" hover_border_color="" font_size="" font_weight="" margin=""]   The PRIMUS project, funded by Horizon Europe, is proud to present the PRE-1000 standard—a new tool designed to help plastics recyclers ensure compliance with chemical regulations. Created by Plastics Recyclers Europe (PRE), this voluntary industry standard allows recyclers to verify the presence or absence of harmful substances (Substances of Concern) in a cost-effective way.   What is the PRE-1000 Standard? The PRE-1000 tool enables recyclers to use handheld X-ray fluorescence (XRF) devices to quickly and reliably screen for harmful substances. This practical method helps recyclers comply with regulations...

IASIM-2024

The PRIMUS Project  attended the International Association for Spectral Imaging (IASIM)-2024 from July 6th to 10th, represented by VTT, a key project partner. Francisco Senna Vieira presented a poster showcasing groundbreaking results from the PRIMUS project on the prediction and mapping of degradation degree in acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) and high impact polystyrene (HIPS) using near-infrared hyperspectral imaging. It was an exceptionally interesting event! Francisco explained: "It was a great pleasure to attend IASIM 2024 in Bilbao! I had the opportunity to present some results of my work within the PRIMUS Project EU related to mapping the degradation degree of plastic waste with hyperspectral imaging. And I was...
